1990s Seed planted and Dr David Joske increasingly develops idea of support centre.

March 2000 Call for more integrative approach with complementary and mainstream practices.

April 2000 Visit from Dr. Jane Maher (McMillan Cancer Support Centre).

July 2000 Brownes Dairy of Western Australia Partners with campaign. Brownes Dairy Commoonity Milk Campaign raises $208,000.

June 2001 Leukemia Foundation of Western Australia Supports Centre’s Initiative with funding for first coordinator.

June 2001 Building works completed at Hospital.

August 2001 David Oliver appointed first Centre Coordinator.

September 2001 Centre opens to the general public to provide support to Cancer patients and their carers. Immediately have over 100 visitors per week.

December 2001 Health Consumer Council of Western Australia Certificate of Excellence awarded to Dr David Joske for Outstanding Work with Cancer Patients.

March 2002 Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital remains supportive. Demand continues with over 150 cancer patients and their carers per week visiting the Centre.

April 2002 Centre’s Research Program established and Committee appointed.

May 2002 Professor Linda Kristjanson joins the Research Committee.

June 2002 Support from Edith Cowan University infrastructure with the database for the Centre.

January 2003 Success of Research Committee, creating useful quality of life instruments, effective and user friendly databases, and publishable results.

April 2003 Dr Joske speaks at Perth Conference on Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

June 2003 Advisory Board for Centre established.

July 2003 Rotary Club of Nedlands, WA “David Cruickshank Award” to Dr David Joske for Excellence in Vocation.

September 2003 Presentation at the Integrative Medicine Conference: ‘Complementary Therapies in Oncology: Comfort or Cure? Evidenced Based Natural therapies for Medical and Health Professionals’

November 2003 Presentation at the Clinical Oncology Society of Australasia: ‘Reconciling Mainstream and Complementary Medicine in A Teaching Hospital’.

November 2003 Visit from Professor Christine Ewan, CEO of National Breast Cancer Centre.

January 2004 Publication: Achieving A Sense of Empowerment: Use Strategies to Control Illness by Haematological Cancer Patients.

May 2004 Appealathon becomes a major sponsor 2004/2005.

August 2004
Presentation to the 2nd National Breast Cancer Conference in Melbourne.

October 2004 Dr Joske presents at the National Conference on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Queensland.

February 2005 David Oliver presents to the Senate Inquiry into services and treatment options for persons with cancer.

June 2005 Media release of research results by SCGH.

August 2005 Presentation to the Australian Integrative Medicine Association (AIMA) National Conference.

October 2005 Dr Joske receives the John Curtin Medal for Vision, Leadership and Community Service.

Formation of SolarisCare Foundation

September 2006 Launch of SolarisCare Foundation from SCGH.

2007 Ongoing presentation of complementray therapies to hospitals in Perth, WA

August 2007 Dr. Joske presents to the Australian Integrative Medicine Association (AIMA) National Conference

March 2008 First Red Sky Ride for SolarisCare Foundation raising more than $140,000 for the centres.

April 2008 SolarisCare opens a cancer support centre at St John Of God, Subiaco.
